Adding a little Spring!

Grow some grass indoors!

Tired of seeing dirty snow and lifeless lawns? Here's a way to add some spring into your day and a fun activity to do with kids!

How to plant grass in a pot:

Things You'll Need

Clay pots
Potting soil
Grass seed of your choice
(Fescue seed works well because it grows fast)
Gravel or twigs

Step 1

Cover the bottom of your clay pot with a fine layer of gravel or twigs for drainage.

Step 2

Mix the potting soil with an organic mulch, then fill the pot to about 1/2 inch below the rim.

Step 3

Sprinkle the grass seeds on top of the soil. Do not press them down into the soil. Cover the soil liberally---you should not see much space between the seeds.

Step 4

Cover the seeds with damp coffee filters. (This will help them germinate and keep birds from eating them, if you are keeping your clay pot outside.)

Step 5

Place the seeds in a warm, sunny location. Keep them covered with the moist coffee filters. Once the seeds have germinated (sprouted), which should take three or four days, uncover them and keep the soil moist but not soggy. Trim the grass with scissors as needed.

Tips

Grass can be grown indoors. Simple place your clay pot on a sunny window sill and watch the grass grow!

"Nanny and Me" log sheets! Again!

Many new moms and seasoned moms alike have asked about ways to know whats going on while they are away from their children all day, so I've decided to repost a great way to keep informed of all the days events...

Going back to work for the first time after you have a baby can be especially difficult. You would love to be home but if that is not an option have your nanny keep track of what goes on during the day so you don’t feel like you’re missing out.
Create a “Nanny and Me” log sheet. Add lines like what your child ate, what activities did they play, special things that happened that day and maybe add favorite books they read or when your child went down for a nap. When you come home from work you’ll be able to read about what filled your child’s day. To make it especially rewarding for you, leave your nanny a charged camera so they can take pictures of the days events! Customize your log sheet, be creative, you can even add it to a scrapbook - Have fun with it!
